Welcome to South Elementary!

Welcome to our South Elementary website! It is our intention that you find useful information regardless if you are a current parent of a South Elementary student or a prospective parent.

South Elementary was named a National No Child Left Behind School of Excellence in 2004 by the National Department of Education. South Elementary was chosen because of our continued academic growth for all students. In an effort to continue to have our students grow academically and to function at grade-level, we believe in meeting the individual academic needs of all students. Throughout the day, we target each child’s instruction by using each student’s assessment information to guide what they need to learn and focus on.
We are a National Character Count school. Through Character Counts, it is our hope that we are creating “South Elementary Kids with Character,” who follow the six pillars of character; respect, responsibility, caring, fairness, trustworthiness and citizenship in all they do and in all they say. Character Counts is evident throughout the building; on the walls, in the daily announcements, in the conversations we have with students when they make poor choices, to our monthly Character Count assembly that recognizes students as “Kids with Character.”
We believe that South Elementary is a great place to be! If you are considering South Elementary as the school for your child, we encourage you to come in and visit. I would love to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have.

  • Parents, are you wondering what the difference is between enrollment and registration? Parents take the New Student Enrollment packet to their school(s) to have their child entered as a student of that school.  Enrollment can take place any time during regular school office hours. Registration is for students who currently attend SD27J or have already completed the enrollment process.  Please do not plan to enroll your child during your school’s scheduled registration times. Please feel free to email enrollment@sd27j.org if you have any questions.

  •    The School District 27J District Committee needs your help. This committee serves as an advisory board to the 27J Board of Education.  The 27J Accountability Committee is composed of parents, citizens and staff who are interested in the school system and making improvements in education.
The committee provides input to schools in their improvement planning process through the Unified Improvement Plans. This process includes building understanding about the plan, presentations from principals and site visits to the schools. The committee also reviews charter school applications and renewals, provides big picture perspectives on the budget and other special projects.
The first meeting of the 2014-2015 school year will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 15, 2014, at the District Training Room, 80 S. 8th Ave., Brighton. Dinner is provided.
Interested participants can R.S.V.P. to Linda Nowak at 303-655-2957 or lnowak@sd27j.org.
