Southeast News

    Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year. I am pleased to serve as the principal of Southeast Elementary. This is a wonderful community of dedicated students, staff and parents. I know this year is going to be a year of great learning, exploring, and fun. Please note that Mrs. Gold will be serving as interim principal while I am on maternity leave. I look forward to seeing all of you in September when I return.

Mark your calendars for our Back to School Night on August 14th from 5:00-6:00 PM. This is a chance to meet your child’s teacher, and drop off supplies to help make the first day go smoothly. Class lists will be finalized and posted online and at the building beginning August 13th.

Just like last year we will have Elementary Assessment Days. The purpose of these days is to allow our teachers to gather data on students and get them instruction appropriate for their level as soon as possible. Students will be assessed on reading and math abilities. The adopted school days are August 18th and 19th.

Full day Kindergarten and 1st through 5th grade students at Southeast Elementary will be assessed according to the following schedule:

Students with Last Names Beginning With: Testing Time Testing Day
    A-E - 8:30-10:30  - August 18
    F-L - 11:00-1:00 - August 18
    M-Q - 1:30-3:30 - August 18
    R-Z - 8:30-10:30 - August 19

For the August testing, half day Kindergarten students will follow the Gradual Entrance schedule as explained at Kindergarten Roundup.

The assessment days are considered student contact days and normal attendance policies and procedures apply. Students testing on August 18th do not come to school on August 19th. Students testing on August 19th do not come to school on August 18th. Students should arrive five minutes prior to their testing time and be picked up at the end of the testing time. Supervision for students arriving before their time and/or staying after is not provided. Daycare is not available for the assessment days.

If you haven’t done so already, now is a good time to buy school supplies. Many of the retailers in our area are offering great deals on everyday school supplies. Class supply lists are available at local retailers, the Southeast office, and on our website

Our continued pledge at Southeast is to do what is best for kids, and remain focused on learning. Southeast is a wonderful place with great kids, parents, and staff. We look forward to a fantastic year with the families of Southeast!
