Sept 21, 2023 - Fall enrollment is now closed. Our application will remain open for our next start date, which will be January of 2024.
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL (Frequently asked questions)
We are a small alternative high school with a student enrollment of about 180 students. Go Dragons!! We are a 27J public school, not a charter. We follow the district calendar, and are on the 4-day school week.
Our daily schedule is 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, with extra tutoring support available after school from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
We operate with 6-week terms, which we call hexters. Students earn credits every 6 weeks towards their graduation requirements. Students attend six classes, as well as a Morning Council class. Each regular class is 0.5 credit per hexter.
Transportation to school can be requested, but is not guaranteed. Please be sure to request your need for bus transportation during our enrollment call. Routes are dependent on availability and are at the discretion of the 27J Transportation Department.
Credit Recovery - Our schedule is built to provide credit acceleration for students behind in credits. We do offer limited opportunities for online credit recovery classes. However, most students are able to catch-up through our regular classroom schedule.
Diploma Pathways - We have 3 unique diploma pathways at I & O: Endeavor, Odyssey, and Crossroads. Each pathway has its own set of eligibility and graduation requirements. When we contact you regarding enrollment, we will review which pathway(s) your student would be eligible for if they decide to attend our school. We partner with students and families to determine the pathway that best fits each student's needs.
Our school is open to any high school student, and is not based on placement. We have three enrollment periods during the school year: August, late September, and the beginning of January. While we primarily serve grades 10 - 12, we do accept applications from current 9th grade students for our January enrollment period.
The first step for an interested family is to complete our online application. We gather basic information, including who will be our primary point of contact regarding enrollment. We review applications in the order they are received.
You will receive a phone call from an I & O staff member to further discuss our school, answer questions, and explain the options available. Once we've confirmed the student will attend, we complete the remainder of the transfer process.
Should we reach our capacity for that enrollment period, any remaining applicants will be notified that we are full, and we will ask if you would like to remain on a waitlist for the next available enrollment window.
