The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is offered to 10th and 11th grade students on October 19, 2023. Students that would like to take the PSAT/NMSQT may elect to take the exam for $25.00. We will limit the number of students that may take the exam to the first 65 sign ups, on a first come first serve basis. Juniors and Sophomores that wish to take the PSAT/NMSQT can register by paying the bookkeeper no later than October 5. Juniors are the only ones that may test to qualify for NMSQT, sophomores often use this as a practice exam. This year the test is a computer-based test and they must bring a charged Chromebook for testing.
The test will be administered at the District Training Room, one block north of Brighton High School, 60 S 8th Ave, Brighton, CO 80601. Arrival time is 8:10 AM, pre-administration activities will begin at 8:30 and once testing starts no late students will be admitted. Students taking the exam will be excused from school. We will not be offering make-up test days.
The NMSQT exam is a qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships for juniors. To learn more about National Merit see https://www.nationalmerit.org. The PSAT/NMSQT can also prepare students for the SAT exam taken in the spring, which is also a qualifying exam for the new required Colorado Gradation Demonstrations.
If you qualify for financial hardships such as Free and Reduced Lunch, McKenny Vento etc. please see your counselor for a free test waiver to take to the bookkeeper. As always students who receive accommodated testing through an Individualized Education Plan or 504 will be eligible for accommodations for this test as well.
