Professional Learning Opportunities

  • AUTHENTIC LEARNING TEAMS

    Purpose:

    • Authentic Learning Team participants will engage in a combination of independent study and ongoing small group collaboration with a commitment to helping all group members develop expertise in the area of your choice. Learning experiences will be shared among teammates in regular team meetings.
    • Teams will commit to shaping new classroom practices or school-wide objectives by reflecting on the results, and sharing their individual or shared learning with each other deepening overall professional growth and student achievement.

    Outcomes:

    • collaborate with and learn from a group of educators with a shared goal
    • engage in a variety of collegial learning experiences
    • enhance the professional culture of the school by personalizing the learning

     

    DISTRICT-SPONSORED CLASSES

    Purpose:

    • District-sponsored classes are designed to provide high-quality learning experiences that support student success and ongoing professional growth through the SD27J vision of the Thinking Classroom and GEL2  (Goal, Evidence, Learning Experiences/Environments).

    Outcomes:

    • Support the actualization of SD 27J curricular frames and common assessments
    • Develop knowledge about specific instructional practices that promote student achievement
    • Embody best practices in instruction through content-specific supports
    • Provide opportunities to network with fellow educators across SD27J

     

    SD 27J / REGIS PARTNERSHIPS

    Purpose:

    • To offer tailored programming that combines a variety of choices within varied levels of leadership

    Outcomes:

    • Master of Arts in Educational Leadership
    • Principal Licensure
    • Master of Arts in Education-Teacher Leadership
    • Teacher Leadership Academic Certificate
    • Master of Arts in Education-Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE)

    LEARNING LABS - (Principal recommendation along with an experienced district facilitator)

    Purpose:

    • In order to meet the needs of 21st century teaching and learning, school sites that are committed to building a community of practice, focus on understanding grade level mastery, and planning for high-quality Tier 1 and Tier 2 instructional practices.

    Outcomes:

    • Provide meaningful and actionable opportunities for professional learning
    • Ensure that students are engaged in high leverage, rigorous, cognitively demanding tasks that lead to successful student independent practice
    • Provide opportunities to identify levels of content and language proficiency
    • Develop common understandings and strategies for high-quality Tier 1/Tier 2 instruction     
    • Engage in school-based coaching in a real classroom context
    • Connect to previous learning through sharing student work/artifacts
    • Engage in new learning (using common instructional constructs)
    • Establish lesson focus with Lab Classroom teacher     
    • Analyze student work through the lens of mastery
    • Plan for instruction (application of learning)

     

    INSTRUCTIONAL ROUNDS - (Principal recommendation along with an experienced district facilitator)

    Purpose:

    • To change student learning and performance across the school by creating a strong, visible, transparent, common culture of instructional practice (a set of protocols for observing, analyzing, discussing, and understanding instruction that can be used to improve student learning)
    • Leaders must engage in that practice to create it
    • To create a common language, ways of seeing, and shared practices of improvement

    Outcomes:

    • Support host school with collecting qualitative data to inform school improvement decisions and aid in leadership decision-making
    • Gain clarity on how to positively influence teacher and student behaviors
    • Non-judgmentally observe and describe teacher and student actions
    • Sharpen our lenses for what highly effective instruction looks and sounds like
