27J CMAS results show encouraging growth, opportunities for continued improvement

27J Schools students showed encouraging growth on the latest round of Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) test results, but still have opportunities for continued improvement.

The Colorado Department of Education released CMAS results from the annual tests administered this past spring.

Highlights of this year’s CMAS results for 27J Schools:

  • Elementary and middle school students showed increases in English Language Arts, math and science compared to a year ago.
  • 27J’s fourth- and fifth-graders outperformed the state with their math gains at those grade levels.
  • The percentage of 27J students who met/exceeded grade-level expectations in English Language Arts in third, fourth and fifth grades increased compared to 2024 test results. The highest increase was in fifth grade, showing a 4.1 percentage point gain.
  • Eleventh-grade students taking the evidence-based reading and writing SAT test and the 10th and 11th grade students taking the math PSAT/SAT test improved their academic achievement compared to last year.

“It’s encouraging to see our numbers trending upward and, in several cases, to see the gains of our students exceed increases seen at the state level,” 27J Schools Executive Director of Learning Services Karla Reider said.

However, even in the positives, Reider said there are still opportunities for growth. For example, despite increases, the performance of 27J Schools remains below the performance of the state of Colorado as a whole. This includes at the middle school level which 27J has made a specific area of focus this year with the hiring of a dedicated administrator to lead a collaborative study of the district’s middle school model.

“We know there is much more work to be done,” Reider said. “We will continue to use our data to identify what areas need greater attention and improvement and work with school leaders and teachers to equip our students with the skills to demonstrate success on these assessments.”
