27J Schools continues upward climb on school ratings

The Colorado Department of Education released preliminary school ratings Sept. 3. The ratings, also known as school performance frameworks (SPFs), are part of the state’s school accountability system and are used to accredit school districts and assign school ratings.

Here's a quick review of our results and how to learn more.

How Did 27J Schools Perform?

“There are many positives we can draw from the new ratings, particularly the amount of schools that have moved to the green tier of the Performance rating, Karla Reider, 27J Schools Executive Director of Learning Services. “We believe we continue to move in the right direction.”

Among district-managed schools, this year's ratings included more schools in the higher levels assigned by the state and fewer schools in the lowest categories compared to last year’s ratings.

  • 13 schools (18 when including charter schools) were rated in the green tier, compared to only 10 schools (16 when including charter schools) last year. Brantner Elementary stood out as the highest rated district-managed school.

  • There was one less school that was rated in the orange or red level. Three schools were in the bottom two tiers this year compared to four schools last year. Northeast Elementary and Southeast Elementary both made notable improvements.

  • There was even positive news to report for schools currently on the state's performance watch list (Overland Trail Middle School) and in turnaround status (Stuart Middle School).
