First principal named for new Rocky Vista High School

The first principal of the district’s newest high school has been named and she has a 27J connection.

Dr. Alana Morales was announced Feb. 9 to lead the new Rocky Vista High School in Commerce City. The school is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in fall 2027.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Morales back to 27J Schools,” said 27J Superintendent Will Pierce. “Since her successful time in our district as a teacher, we have watched her grow into a dynamic school administrator. She is the perfect choice to take on the challenging but gratifying role of opening a new school.”

Morales spent more than two decades as a classroom teacher, including as an English teacher at Prairie View High School from 2014 to 2019. While at Prairie View High School, she earned her master’s degree in education from Regis University.

She served as an assistant high school principal in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District from 2019-2022 and the past nearly 4 years as principal of Boulder High School.

Morales said she is honored to return to 27J as principal of Rocky Vista. She credited the district with putting her on a path toward school administration by supporting her as she pursued leadership opportunities.

“I am here because people believed in me and I look forward to serving this community and fostering the same deep belief in our students,” she said.

Morales will start her role on July 1, 2026 and be responsible for building the vision and culture for the new school.

Morales said her focus will be on continuing the 27J mission to empower students while fostering cultural and academic belonging, ensuring students access post-secondary success.

“I am most excited to build our school culture with our students, staff, and community - together we have an opportunity to collaboratively define what it means to be a part of the Storm,” she said.
