New leaders take spots at school, district level

As a new school year approaches, 27J Schools has announced the following leadership changes for the 2025-2026 school year.

“We have never been more focused on our mission of growing and supporting every student,” said 27J Schools Superintendent Will Pierce. “This combination of current district staff stepping into new leadership roles and new, talented educators joining our team gives me confidence in our ability to achieve this goal.

In keeping with the superintendent's 2025-2026 budget pledge to not increase spending on administration, Pierce made the leadership changes within existing funding limits and all changes were cost-neutral.

The new school year begins for all students Aug. 21.

Michael Clow - Deputy Superintendent - Clow, who has spent 21 years in the district, including six years as an elementary school principal and the past 10 years as Chief Human Resources Officer, will now step into the re-established Deputy Superintendent role. In his new capacity, he will continue to support the Human Resources Department plus the Intervention Services and the Safety/Security teams. He’ll also support the comprehensive high school principals.

Also, he’ll lead the recruiting, evaluation, benefits, compensation, legal compliance and HR information systems programs.

Susan Herll, Director of Curriculum and Assessment - Herll, a career-long 27J Schools staff member, began her time in the district as a middle school teacher in 1998 and then moved to an instructional specialist before spending the past 18 years as the K-12 Literacy Coordinator. She will now oversee all district curriculum and assessment.

Dr. Jackie Tobias - Principal on Special Assignment - Dr. Tobias joins 27J Schools after a distinguished career in the North Carolina public school system, most recently as the principal of the Durham School of Arts. In 27J, she will lead a collaborative effort to examine the nation’s best advancements in middle school classroom instruction and develop a plan for implementation into the district’s middle schools.

Amy Boisaubin - South Elementary Principal - Boisaubin takes the helm at South Elementary in Brighton, following a year as a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse teacher at Second Creek Elementary. Prior to joining 27J in 2024, Boisaubin was an assistant principal in the Adams 14 School District as well as Denver Public Schools.

Samantha Conn - West Ridge Elementary Principal - Conn, a veteran educator, joins West Ridge Elementary as the school’s new principal. Conn joined the district as an English teacher at Brighton High School. Marcus Mares - Southeast Elementary - Mares, who has served as assistant principal at Quist Middle School since 2023, has been named the new Southeast Elementary principal.
