The Name

The name Rocky Vista High School was chosen by the 27J Schools Board of Education in spring 2024 following a community engagement process that included the submission of more than 150 name suggestions from community members. The name, Rocky Vista, was chosen by board members, in appreciation of the school site's picturesque mountain views directly to the west that students will see from west-facing classrooms and common spaces as well as when they compete in outdoor athletics and activities.

The Mascots

As the closest district middle school to the new high school, many current Stuart Middle School students will call Rocky Vista their home high school in only a few short years. Appreciating this special connection, Stuart students were asked to generate their favorite mascot ideas. They came up with 252 suggestions. Considering only student-generated ideas, school district staff then carefully vetted and narrowed their ideas to a group of four finalists using criteria that included uniqueness, school spirit potential and cultural sensitivity. In the end, students helped developed four vibrant mascot options that have a regional flare, anchored to the school's dynamic landscape and proximity to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge.

The Colors

As the Rocky Vista High School construction team envisioned the interior design, they immediately envisioned purple as a dominant design color. Purple was seen as a color that would complement the school colors of the existing district high schools and, again hearkening back to the school namesake, it would reflect the "purple mountain majesties" of the nearby mountains. While all predominantly purple, three color combinations have been developed to give the community a voice in school colors.
