Board of Education Committee Descriptions Policy 2.I Board Committee Structure
Ownership Linkage Committee
The Ownership Linkage Committee has historically chosen the groups that the Board of Education chooses to hold linkage meetings throughout the year. These meetings occur on the second Wednesday of each month.
Education Committee
Has previously occurred in study sessions of regular Board business meetings. The Education Committee has historically chosen the education topics for the Board of Education. These education sessions primarily occur during the Board of Education’s study session, prior to the regular meeting.
27J Believers
The 27J Believers Award Committee creates topics and nominations to recognize 27J Schools staff and community members for supporting the district. Awards are distributed multiple times during the year at the regular Board of Education meetings. The committee members determine the schedule each year.
Capital Facility Fee Foundation
This group encourages builder participation through donations to the CFFF and monitors builder data throughout the district, with updates from our operations team on building progress throughout the area. It votes on it when the 27J Board of Directors request money for a capital project. The Foundation members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
Rocky Mountain Risk Insurance Group (Formerly BOCES)/POOL
Board of Education members attend these meetings on behalf of the district as representatives of the insurance pool for the district. The members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
Commerce City and 27J Use Tax Committee
Commerce City charges a use tax on our properties within their borders. This committee works with the city staff and city council members to authorize these monies to be used on projects that benefit both entities. The committee members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
2015/2021 Bond Oversight Committee
The School District 27J Board of Education established a community Bond Oversight Committee to monitor the activities and expenditures of funds authorized by the 2015 bond election and ensure that these funds are being used appropriately. This committee will meet on a monthly basis and remain in place until all of the bond funds have been expended. Six community representatives (2 from each geographic area of the district) have been appointed to serve on this committee. The committee members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
Brighton Youth Commission
The BYC is a group that falls under the City of Brighton Youth Services Department with numerous youth and adult commissioners. One adult position is reserved for a 27J liaison. There are optional outside activities as well. The purpose of the group is to develop leadership skills through an adult/youth partnership. The commission members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
2022 Mill Levy Override Oversight Committee
The School District 27J Board of Education established a community Mill Levy Override Oversight Committee to monitor the activities and expenditures of funds authorized by the 2022 mill levy override election and ensure that these funds are being used appropriately. This is a perpetual committee, as the mill levy override funds are a continual tax revenue for the District. Six community representatives (2 from each geographic area of the district) and three at large representatives have been appointed to serve on this committee.The committee members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
Facility Planning Advisory Committee - Optional
The Facility Planning Advisory Committee is a standing committee whose purpose is to advise the Superintendent regarding the facility needs of the district. Its members include at least one representative from each of the
following groups: District Accountability Committee, Elementary Principals, Secondary Principals, Municipal Community Development/Planning Departments, Facilities Manager, Certified Employees, Classified Employees, Parents and Community Members.The Committee members determine the date/time/venue of all meetings.
