Schools reap benefits of summer bond projects

This time of year is a busy one as students and staff prepare for the start of the new school year. It’s also a busy time for the 27J Construction Department, which is wrapping up work on dozens of improvement projects at schools across the district.

The work began immediately after the 2024-2025 school year ended. Over the following weeks, crews tackled projects ranging from new paving for parking lots to new play areas and equipment. All of the summer projects are a direct result of voter support for the $515 million 2021 Bond.

Safety was a key theme in this summer’s projects. Camera systems were upgraded at Brighton, Prairie View and Riverdale Ridge high schools.  In addition, secure vestibules have been installed at Brighton High School, Henderson Elementary, South Elementary, Southeast Elementary and the Sakata Education Campus. The addition of these vestibules now means all 27J schools have a controlled entrance.

Despite the best efforts of work crews, there are some projects that won’t be completed until after the start of school. We appreciate your patience and understanding as these projects wind down on those campuses in the coming weeks.
