AI Weapons Detection Software
As part of our district’s ongoing commitment to safe learning environments, we have implemented the use of IntelliSee, an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted weapon detection system at each of our comprehensive high school campuses as well as Innovations and Options for the 2026-2027 school year.
What is IntelliSee?
IntelliSee is a software platform that works with our existing security camera system to help identify the visible presence of a firearm. Rather than relying solely on someone monitoring camera feeds, the system continuously analyzes designated camera views and can quickly notify trained personnel when it detects what appears to be a drawn firearm.
The technology is designed to provide another layer of situational awareness that may allow our school safety staff to respond more quickly during a critical incident.
How does it work?
The software analyzes video from selected existing security cameras using computer vision technology. If the system identifies what appears to be a visible, unholstered firearm, it verifies the detection across multiple video frames before sending an alert to designated school and safety personnel for review and response.
This system is only being implemented on existing building cameras and its only current purpose will be to alert staff to the detection of a visible firearm. Future phases of this system implementation may be expanded to identify different safety concerns or alert staff to other emergency situations.
How does this affect student privacy?
We understand that privacy is important to our students and families. IntelliSee is designed to detect the presence of a visible weapon.
- The system does not use facial recognition and is not designed to identify people.
- It does not collect, generate or store biometric information such as fingerprints, voiceprints, retina scans, faceprints, or any other biometric identifier.
- It does not maintain a database of identities or a watchlist.
- This system is designed to immediately alert staff to the presence of a visible firearm. It will not be used for investigative purposes or to discipline students for non-safety-related conduct.
- Video processing occurs on-site using existing district infrastructure rather than sending video to the cloud.
