Safety Check
Safety Check, part of the current phase of our district's ongoing safety improvements, is set to launch in January 2025. As part of Safety Check, Security scanners will be installed in Brighton High, Prairie View High, Riverdale Ridge High and Innovation and Options schools. This metal detection technology will help keep weapons out of our schools. Once fully operational, Safety Check requires all students and visitors to enter each school through its main entrance and pass through metal detector scanners.
This fall, schools will work with stakeholders, including parents, on training and understanding how the system will be used and its anticipated benefits. Law enforcement will also train with safety staff on roles and responsibilities. Students will practice the new procedures, and teachers will provide more information during Student Advisory. Parents will receive updates on the program throughout the fall and get the chance to see the equipment in use before its official launch in January.
