Brighton High School
Brighton High School has moved to a split schedule for the 2017-2018 school year in order to support our growing student population. We anticipate that this split schedule will provide adequate classroom space for the next four to five years. Please note: the split schedule will be for Brighton High School and not any of the feeder schools at this point.
The schedule changes are necessary because both high schools are currently over their enrollment capacity with those numbers expected to grow in coming years. School District 27J’s 2014 bond question, which included the construction of a third district high school, was unsuccessful. The addition of a third high school would ease overcrowding at the two existing high schools.
High school students and staff will no longer have Early Release Wednesdays but, in an effort to preserve valuable staff professional development time, students will not have classes the second Wednesday of each month from September through April.
Under the new schedule, high school students will attend school in overlapping shifts. As a rule, freshmen and sophomore students will attend class from 7:00 a.m. to 2:22 p.m. and junior and senior students will generally attend class from 9:48 a.m. to 5:10 p.m., based on their individual schedules.
