Mrs. Lindsey Kavallar

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Prairie View High School!

I will be teaching Biology & Principles of Biomedical Sciences at PVHS. I am also one of the HOSA Advisors at our school. This year will be my 8th year teaching science. I moved from Florida to Colorado in 2016 so I could spend more time with my family and explore the vast outdoors of the West.

I'm originally from Jacksonville, Florida where I spent most of my life living close to the beach and enjoying summer year-round. While attending college, I worked on a boat-based photo identification research project of Bottlenose Dolphins mother-calf pairs in the St. John's River. I also interned as a sting ray keeper at the Jacksonville Zoo where I was able to spend my day in the ray tank feeding and caring for these amazing animals.

Before I started teaching, I worked as a veterinarian technician in Germany and as well as Florida. In 2013, I began teaching science and earned my Florida Professional Educator's Certificate. I love being able to share my experiences from my previous work and my passion for science with students.

On a personal note, I met my husband while I was in high school (he was my foreign exchange student during my senior year). The experience of meeting someone from another country, learning a second language, and traveling has steered me towards a passion for student study abroad programs. I believe that by allowing students to travel the world, they will become more well-rounded global citizens. In June of 2016, I led a study abroad trip for students to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. This past summer I lead a PVHS group to the Galapagos Islands in June 2019 and a PVHS group to Italy & Germany in July 2019. Our next PVHS trip will be to Austria, Germany & Switzerland for 12 days in July of 2021. I also have a trip to Thailand for June 2021 scheduled. I enjoy taking students on overseas trips, and I'm looking forward to more trips in the future.

Some of my personal hobbies include traveling, hiking, painting, scuba diving, spending time with my husband Nikolaj & my English bulldog Agnes, traveling, and video games.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime." - Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad
