BIO: I am thrilled to be the Art Teacher at Vikan Middle School this year! Over the past 3-½ years I have been the Art Teacher at Southeast Elementary. Prior to that, with a degree in Interior Architecture from Kansas State University, I was an event and retail designer for Global Exhibition Services in Dallas, TX for over 12 years. I am currently enrolled in the Alternative Licensure Program through Metropolitan State University and will finish the program in May 2020. My husband and I have raised our three children here for the past 12 years and proudly call the Brighton community our home.
BIRTHDAY: July 7
INSPIRATON: One of the artists who has inspired my journey is Henri Matisse. Most of his life was spent perfecting his passions of painting and sculpture, for which he became very successful and well known. Later in his life an illness took away his physical ability to paint and sculpt. Instead of giving up his dreams, Matisse persisted in his journey and discovered an entire new way of art-making. He channeled his artistic voice into cut paper collage and is remembered almost as much for his immense body of work in this new medium as for his earlier paintings and sculpture. I admire his refusal to use age or ability as an excuse for giving up and to continue to acquire new skills and knowledge for his entire life.
