Science

“I hope you're proud of yourself for the times you've said "yes," when all it meant was extra work for you and was seemingly helpful only to someone else.”
― Mister Fred Rogers

BIO: I am so excited to be a part of the Vikan community! I am a native New Yorker, driven by my love of the outdoors to move to Colorado. I received my Bachelor’s in Environmental Science from the University of Rhode Island and my Master’s in Science Education from City College of New York. I have taught high school science for 9 years and middle school science for 2 years. I am so excited to return to the middle school setting guiding students to develop the skills necessary for advanced science study and sharing my love of science and learning with growing minds.

BIRTHDAY: June 3rd

INSPIRATION: I love that science allows us to engage in our surroundings and explore our world. Science is one of the few subjects that so gracefully intertwines with each of the rest. Science has been at the root of so much human discovery in the past and continues to drive our future. From the beginning of time, the world has been filled with great minds and thinkers. It’s hard to select just one or two scientist to tout, however, I have chosen two that most people wouldn’t be familiar with. The first is Rosalind Franklin whose work as a x-ray crystallographer laid the groundwork for Watson & Crick’s discovery of DNA’s double helix. Secondly, I admire the brilliance of Harry Hess and his innovativeness to use the same technology that protected Allied naval ships from German U-Boats during World War II to simultaneously map the ocean floors.
