Meet the Leaders of Learning for our Raven Learning Community
Our English Teachers
Ms. Samantha Conn
English Learning Leader
Mrs. Conn is extremely excited to fly her way in as a Raven this fall. Currently, she is wrapping up her fourth year of teaching English at BHS along with being a Link Co-Sponsor.
She has lived in the Brighton area for the past 23 years. In 2009, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education followed by her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012, both from Colorado Christian University. She is currently pursuing her Leadership Education License at Regis University. Prior to teaching, Mrs. Conn spent 8 1/2 years at FirstBank, 5 years as a full-charge bookkeeper for a local company, and 12 years as a children's director for churches. However, of all her responsibilities, raising her kids has been the most important - and where she's learned the most!
When Mrs. Conn isn't at school, you can find her hanging out with her husband, one of her three grown kids, or her grandson. She also enjoys mentoring a small group of girls from her local church. Her favorite adventure is to head out in any direction. She has a passion for leading and equipping youth along with helping students love learning again.
Mr. Judd Farner

After graduating from CSU, Judd became General Manager for the Bas Bleu Theatre Company in Fort Collins, CO. While he worked as GM, Judd also attended the University of Northern Colorado to obtain his Master of Arts in Theatre Education. He was selected as the UNC Outstanding Graduate Student for his class and was invited to speak at graduation.
Judd is focused on arts education advocacy, specifically on preparing emerging artists for the workforce after education. He is also the founder of The New Commedia, a small theatre company that creates original, local-grown productions across the front range.
If he has down-time, you'll find him at the movies.
Ms. Shelly LaTerra
Teacher Lead Learner/English Language Arts (ELA)
Mrs. LaTerra is super excited to be a Riverdale Ridge Raven and embark on this new adventure. She can’t wait to guide her students through great literature where they will figuratively travel to faraway places, visit people who have stories to tell, tackle tough issues, find their voices, and take a stand for what they believe.
Mrs. LaTerra was raised in Lakewood, Colorado and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University. While in college and for several years after, she helped manage a small relocation company, moving families all over the world. In 2002, Mrs. LaTerra changed careers and became a Brighton High School Bulldog where she spent 15 years teaching 9th, 10th, and 12th grade English, Freshmen Seminar, and AVID. During this time she also earned a Master of Education degree. Currently Mrs. LaTerra is teaching 6th grade Language Arts at Stuart Middle School.
Mrs. LaTerra spends her free time in the mountains near Red Feather Lakes hiking, fishing, and ATVing with her husband and 6 year old daughter. She recently started climbing Colorado 14ers and went on her first 27 mile backpacking trip through the Rawah Wilderness. She hopes to instill in her students an adventurous spirit and a love for learning.
