Mrs. Candie Petersen

I think I have always been a teacher--I started out teaching neighbor kids to swim, complete with sticker progress charts, dance classes in my front yard, and what are younger brothers for, if not to "teach" all kinds of things. My official journey into teaching started in 2008, teaching 7th grade at North Arvada Middle school. The next stop on my quest led me to Stuart Middle School and I have been in 27j since then. I have worked at Brighton High School, Brantner Elementary and am thrilled to be a part of the team opening Quist. My teaching career started in Middle school and though I have learned a lot teaching high school and elementary, I am so excited to get back to my roots in middle school.

My inspiration for teaching middle school came from my own middle school experience, we moved when I was in 7th grade to a small town where it felt like everyone knew everyone but me, I was alone. It was then that I realized the power of relationships and how that can help students feel connected to school and how that connection can help students to succeed. I love teaching middle school students because students are in such a fascinating place in their lives--they are thinking big thoughts, experiencing big emotions and trying to navigate friendships and a new school with grit and grace. It is my hope to be a positive role model and to help my students feel connected to school and each other.
