Mr. Kurtis Gallop
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! I am a first-year teacher at Rodger Quist Middle School and I'm very excited to be a part of this new community of learners and educators. After serving a considerable time as a short- and long-term substitute for 27J, I am continuing into my fifth year of teaching and my second year teaching Spanish.
I have lived in Colorado my entire life and I still never get tired of exploring our beautiful state. I love hiking, biking, cooking, and studying various aspects of language (yes, I actually study for fun sometimes). I very much look forward to this school year and the amazing opportunity to impart knowledge and a passion for world language with you all!I am a self-described "language nerd" and if given the opportunity, I might just talk your ear off about the evolutionary processes of etymology, or the phenomena of creolization of interlanguage...well, I'll stop myself there for now.
I have been fascinated by world languages since my first Spanish class when I was fifteen, which it has led me to my life's calling: to share the joy of understanding new languages, cultures, and points of view with as many minds as possible. The time I have spent as a tutor in Colorado and studying abroad in Panamá only strengthened my determination.
I realize that not everyone can be as excited by irregular verbs in the imperfect subjunctive case as I am...so I decided to become a teacher so I could create fun and engaging ways to help others enjoy the process of learning Spanish and all the various cultures that call it their "lengua materna" (or mother tongue)."The mind is not a vessel that needs filling, but wood that needs igniting." -Plutarch
