Mr. Cody Johnson

My name is Cody Johnson, and I will be teaching physical education this fall to the amazing students at Quist Middle School. I cannot wait to instill my love and passion for fitness and sports to all your children and to help them find their love and passion to become physically as well as emotionally fit for life.

I graduated from the University of Wyoming in Kinesiology and Health Science with an emphasis on physical education K-12. I then moved to Arizona where I taught physical education K-12 for ten years. I finished my master’s degree in Sports Administration and moved to Colorado where I taught high school PE/health for six years in the Mapleton School District. I will be starting my 17th year teaching physical education. I cannot wait for the coming school year. Along with teaching, I have coached a variety of sports including junior high basketball, football, soccer, and baseball. At the high school level, I coached basketball, football, and tennis. I have a deep appreciation for all sports and love playing, watching, and coaching just about all of them.

I found out at an early age that I had a passion to teach youth when I became a lifeguard in high school and taught swim lessons. It was during that time when I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a physical education teacher and coach.

My goal in physical education is to give students the opportunity to appreciate the knowledge and skills that value physical activity and its lifetime benefits. Active physical activity and sports will help students foster an appreciation for personal fitness and other social skills vital to becoming healthy productive members of the community. The Colorado state standards for physical education will help guide all planning and assessing each lesson used throughout the semester. Lessons will be planned to maximize the amount of time students are engaged in moderate to vigorous activity. Research has shown that a comprehensive, research-based middle school physical education program can promote healthy habits in children that generate better classroom success. My wonderful family lives in Thornton about five minutes away from the school.

My wife Sara is a registered charge nurse who works at St. Anthony Hospital Sr. Health. We have two very beautiful children named Brooklyn, age 10 and Bruin age 6, and I cannot forget our family dog, Luda who used to be my running partner back in his prime.

If you ever have any questions regarding my class or anything at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to me either by email or by phone. I look forward to a great school year teaching and getting to know each and everyone of your children. Go Royals!
