Mrs. Shawna Karl

Hello.   I have been teaching at Prairie View High School since 2010.  I am part of the CTE (Career & Technical Education) programs.  My classes are practical arts in the area of FACS (Family & Consumer Sciences)  It was previously known as Home Economics.    I teach Catering I & II for Sophomores through Seniors.  My classroom is in C-109.  My day starts with class at 7:30 AM with student classes beginning at 8:30 AM and ends with my last class at 3:32  PM.  This year I am teaching 6 courses of Catering I  & II,  to help with teacher shortage in this field of study.
Prior to teaching at PVHS, I substituted in Montana, Washington & Idaho.  I taught Preschool in Washington State also.  While in Maryland, I taught Middle School FACS.   I taught as a long-term substitute at Thimmig Elementary 2002-2003.  In 2003 I became a member of the Brighton High School staff and remained there until transferring to PVHS in 2010.  While at BHS I taught, Catering, Life Management, Relationships, Nutrition & Wellness & Teen Choices.
I am also the FCCLA Adviser (Family, Career & Community Leaders of America)  at PVHS.  This organization is primarily a service oriented organization.  All levels of high school students are welcome to join.  Some of you may remember this as FHA.  Watch the PVHS website for more details.
Part of my extra-curricular activities include running the clock and/or announcing at the Varsity Men & Women's home soccer games, as well as, keeping statistics for our Wrestling team.   Both of my sons graduated from PVHS, so my husband & I are very supportive of these extra curricular activities!
I have my Bachelor of Science degree from Ft. Hays State University in Hays, KS along with a Vocational Education Certification.  I have taken additional courses at several other universities and colleges, depending on where we were living.
I enjoy getting to know our students here at PVHS.  I strive to guide them in making strong life advancing choices.  I feel this course of Catering and all of the Family & Consumer Sciences courses have essential everyday learning tools as part of the curriculum.
