Ms. Andrea Torres

I am a Colorado native. I was born and raised in Lamar, Colorado where we have a proud and rich tradition of great athletics.  As a child, I had the opportunity to live in Marysville, Washington for five years.   Being able to live in another state was a great experience and culturally broadening.  After graduating from Lamar High school I went on to play softball and earn an Associate of Arts degree from Lamar Community College.  I furthered my education and collegiate softball career at Colorado State University - Pueblo where I received a Bachelor of Science degree.   I also earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

I am fortunate to be a part of the sport culture. I have always loved and been involved with sports throughout my life.  I attribute this to my parents who are both avid sports fans and participants (GO BRONCOS).   I strongly believe in the values that athletics offer, like learning how to work hard, never giving up, and working as a team unit.   Athletics have also taught me how to win and lose.   Like Vince Lombardi said “winning isn’t everything – but wanting to is.”  There is value to being part of a sports team, and this is one of many reasons why I decided to become a physical education teacher.

As a physical educator it is my goal to instill those same life values.   My approach to physical education is to create an environment of teamwork, cooperation, and diversity.  It's about the students personal journey and growth through physical activity.   My hope is for all students to find some type of physical activity enjoyable by providing them with the skills and confidence to participate.

It has been my pleasure and honor to be a part of Vikan Middle School since 2004.  I have the privilege of coaching many sports here at Vikan. I have enjoyed the community of Brighton as it has many similar traits to my hometown.  I look forward to many more years at this great school and in this community.
