The safety and welfare of student riders shall be the first consideration in all matters pertaining to transportation. Safety precautions shall include the following:
- Students will be instructed as to the proper procedure for boarding and exiting from a school bus and in proper and safe conduct while aboard.
- Emergency evacuation drills shall be conducted at least twice during each school year for route operators and students who are transported the day of the drill.
- All vehicles used to transport students will be inspected periodically to see that they meet safety regulations.
A bus driver who observes a vehicle passing the school bus when the signal lights are activated shall notify the transportation supervisor of the violation and provide him with the basic information required by law. The transportation supervisor shall convey this information to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
The school district shall comply with all state laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of school buses and shall make these requirements known to bus drivers. It shall also cooperate with local safety officials in formulating and accomplishing its school bus safety program.
