Student Dismissal Precautions: JLIB
- Students: J
The school is legally responsible for the health and safety of its students during the school day. Therefore, each school shall set up procedures to validate requests for early dismissal to assure that students are released only for proper reasons and into proper hands.
Under no circumstances shall teachers dismiss a student from school prior to the end of the school day or into any person's custody without the direct prior approval and knowledge of the building principal and/or designee.
The building principal shall not excuse a student under the age of 18 before the end of a school day without a request for the early dismissal from the student's parents. In keeping with this policy, it becomes prudent that:
- No student be released from school early unless by request of the parent or guardian.
- Children of estranged parents are released only upon the request of the parent whom a Colorado court holds directly responsible for the child and who is the parent or guardian registered on the school record.
An elementary student shall be sent home only with his/her parent or, if the parent is not available, with another authorized person. Additional precautions shall be taken by the building principals as needs arise. In emergency situations, students will be dismissed as per evacuation procedures established by the District.
