Clark named new principal for Riverdale Ridge High School
Thornton, Colo. – 27J Schools announced today its selection of its new principal for Riverdale Ridge High School in Thornton. Cody Clark will take over the top job at the district’s 4-year-old high school beginning July 1 following the retirement of the school’s inaugural principal, Terry Elliott.
The 20,000-student 27J Schools has schools in Brighton, Thornton and Commerce City. Riverdale Ridge is the district’s newest high school. Last spring it held its first graduation with students who started there as freshmen and who graduated in 2021.
Clark comes to Riverdale Ridge from The Academy of Charter Schools which is in Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Westminster. He’s been its high school principal for about nine years. Prior to that, Clark served the school as its assistant principal/athletic director, and secondary dean of students. Clark also served for four years as a middle level physical education teacher at Peak to Peak Charter School in Boulder and two years as a teacher at Community Leadership Academy charter school in the Adams 14 School District.
Clark recognizes he’s coming to a school that has established a strong sense of commitment, high expectations for performance and relationships, and a great track record of being able to adapt to shifts and changes.
“Riverdale Ridge High School is a school that has already set the bar high. It’s got a lot of positive things going for it,” Clark said. “I’m excited to come in and meet students, staff and families where they are and work together to determine where we want to continue building. I value the work the students and staff have already poured into the school to make it a shining example of quality and excellence. I want to build on that tradition.”
Clark brings experience in instructional leadership, supervision, family and student engagement, school safety, operations management and budgeting. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in Human Performance and Sport with an emphasis in K-12 physical education at Metropolitan State College of Denver and his masters degree in Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Colorado - Denver.
On his first visit to the district, Clark quickly zeroed in on one of 27J’s and Riverdale Ridge’s biggest assets – their sense of family.
“I’m a big relationships and community person. I believe in investing in people."
