AM Hug and Go Drop Off Procedure
The Hug and Go process in the morning is intended to be a quick and safe drop off for students from the right hand lane only. Vehicles may not park or stand in the right hand lane waiting for students to get out of the car or watching students walk to their destination. Additionally, drivers should not get out of their cars while in the right hand lane. It is critical that cars in the right hand lane drop off quickly so that it moves fairly continuously and efficiently.
The left hand lane is never to be used for student drop off unless directed by staff. The left hand lane is also not to be used to move ahead of other cars or to pull forward and dart into the right hand lane to drop off further ahead of other cars. Quicker drop off in the right hand lane is intended to alleviate the need for use of the left hand lane to get around slow vehicles.
The parking lot is not to be used for general student drop off. It is not a Hug and Go lane. Its use is reserved for vehicles that need to park and help their children get out of the car only. Students walking across the parking lot from these vehicles must cross the Hug and Go lanes at the crosswalk only.
The playground is CLOSED before school. All students should line up in their class lines (1st, 4th & 5th grades meet on recess field, 2nd & 3rd meet on the front PE field, K meets on the blacktop). When the bell rings at 8:55 AM teachers will start bringing their classes inside. Students being dropped off in the Hug and Go lane should arrive and be out of their cars in time to line up be in their classrooms when the bell rings at 8:55 AM daily.
To ensure the safety of all students, the following procedures for morning Hug and Go drop off must be observed:
-
Enter the Hug and Go right hand lane and pull as far forward as possible - up to the student drop off sign. Students should be ready to exit cars from the passenger side in the right hand lane anywhere along the curb up to the student drop off sign as soon as the line of traffic in that lane pauses.
-
Vehicles will move single file in the right hand lane for student drop off all the way up to the student drop off sign.
-
Do not use the left hand lane for student drop off unless instructed to do so by a staff member.
-
Do not use the left hand lane to get ahead of other cars for drop off.
-
Drop off students on the curbside ONLY.
-
Students must exit vehicles on the passenger side ONLY.
-
Do not stop vehicles on the crosswalk.
-
Cars may carefully merge from the right hand drop off lane into the left hand lane for turning purposes, if needed, ONLY once they are beyond the student drop off sign.
-
It is recommended that vehicles leave school grounds via a right hand turn out of the Hug and Go lane as much as possible for safety purposes.
-
Crossing guard directions must be closely followed by all drivers and walkers.
-
If a student cannot get him or herself out of the car quickly on a daily basis, please park in the parking lot and help them out. Do not use the Hug and Go lane.
-
If a student does not want to get out of the car for some reason on a particular day, please pull into the parking lot and park, so you can help them out and the Hug and Go lanes can keep moving.
-
Walkers from vehicles parked in the parking lot must only cross the Hug and Go lanes at the crosswalk.
