27J 2021 platinum heart sponsor for Pennock Center for Counseling

27J Schools is proud to be a platinum heart sponsor for the 2021 Healing Hearts Auction for the Pennock Center for Counseling.

The Pennock Center for Counseling is a nonprofit counseling center dedicated to making mental health services accessible to all who reside in Brighton and the surrounding communities. Pennock Center for Counseling was developed and founded by Mary “Penny ” Pennock in 1983. Penny, who served as a 27J teacher for 14 years, had a passion and a vision:  take care of others in need and provide them with affordable, professional counseling services. In 2003, she was recognized for her efforts to educate and inspire the lives of our youth by having a new elementary school, Pennock Elementary, named in her honor.

Pennock Center has worked in partnership with 27J Schools providing Alternative to Suspension programs for students and parents. The Center serves as a referral source for the schools and provides crisis debriefing for students and staff when there is a crisis or loss of life involving a student. The center also partners with the Brighton Youth Commission as part of SPEAK Week by acting as a referral source and facilitating Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) courses free to the community.

Mental health needs have skyrocketed since the start of the pandemic. People struggle more than ever with depression, anxiety, stress, grief and relationship problems. At the same time, the Pennock Center has been significantly impacted economically. Donations allow the center to help those who may not otherwise be able to access the help they need.

This year, they will be trying out a new online format that should allow even more people to participate from the comfort of their own homes. From February 21 through February 27, the Center will be hosting an on-line auction, “Healing Hearts.” Thanks to generous donors, they will be offering terrific auction items such as a hybrid bike, art, pottery, jewelry, themed baskets, and other favorites.

Participation in this event is free, but requires registration prior to the auction and placing bids begins on February 21. You can create an account and access the auction by going to

This year has been extra hard on nonprofit organizations and Pennock Center has not escaped unscathed. They need our support now more than ever. 27J is proud to work with Pennock Center for Counseling to support the well-being of our students and families in the fight for accessible mental health services.
