School District 27J’s newest elementary school, scheduled to open in Fall 2017, now has a name.
The School District 27J Board of Education voted 4-1 during their meeting Sept. 27th to name the new facility Reunion Elementary School.
The new school, the district’s 12th elementary school is currently under construction in the Reunion community of Commerce City. It will eventually be home to more than 600 preschool through fifth-grade students. The $22 million school is one of four new schools that will be built thanks to voter support of a $248 million school construction bond. The bond also includes millions of dollars in improvements to existing district schools.
The district’s Facility Planning and Facility Advisory Committee solicited naming suggestions for the school from the community over the summer. Nominations could be submitted on behalf of an individual of present or historical significance to the community or a geographical location. The committee received and reviewed 44 naming nominations and forwarded four name finalists to the 27J Superintendent to be shared with the board for consideration.
Reunion Elementary was designed by Hord Coplan Macht and is being built by FCI Constructors.
