When you hear Brighton School District 27J you may immediately assume that the district serves the city of Brighton, and you would be correct, but that’s not all. Our district, commonly referred to as School District 27J, Brighton 27J, and Adams-Weld School District 27J proudly serves nearly 18,000 students from Aurora, Brighton, Commerce City, Lochbuie, and Thornton and encompasses parts of Adams, Broomfield and Weld counties.
In an effort to more accurately represent the communities served, (Brighton) School District 27J will now be referred to as 27J Schools. An updated logo was created to align with the new name and promote consistency across the district.
“27J Schools is in a unique position. While some districts are closing schools, we are building new ones and renovating and expanding existing schools due to our tremendous growth. We opened a new high school (Riverdale Ridge) in August and plan to open Quist Middle School and Elementary School #13 in 2020. Plans for additional schools to address our space needs in the future are in the works,” said Superintendent Dr. Chris Fiedler. “We understand the growth in our communities will continue as will the need to build additional schools. We want all communities we serve to play an an integral role in the success of 27J Schools. Brighton is where we started and the community is our anchor, but we must embrace and support all the communities in which we are educating the leaders of tomorrow. Rebranding our school district as 27J Schools does just that.”
