Friendly COVID Reminder

27J Parents and Staff,We are about to conclude our third week of the school-year and are happy to report that our multiple layers of protection are in place and proving to be successful. In order for 27J Schools to continue providing in-person learning, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and follow all safety guidelines. Continue wearing a mask, washing hands frequently, and maintaining a minimum of 6-feet distance between yourself and others. The most important thing anyone can do is not attend in-person learning or report to your worksite if you are sick or have any COVID-related symptoms.

Following is how 27J Schools will be handling students and staff who have exhibited COVID-19 symptoms or have a known exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. In a pandemic we are following many guidelines from CDPHE, along with these guidelines comes a new and different way of functioning for in-person learning. Our Children’s Hospital nurses will now consult with anyone who has Covid-19 symptoms regarding their ability to return to school or work. We ask that you please give them grace as they navigate these new responsibilities and know that they are working hard to be responsive and timely to all of our staff and students.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms will need to isolate for a minimum of 24 hours. If symptoms clear within 24 hours, you may return to your place of work or school.  If symptoms do not clear within 24 hours, continued isolation for an additional 48 hours is required and a Children’s Hospital nurse consultant or 27J Site Coordinator will follow up with you to provide next steps. Due to the long incubation period and complexity of this virus we need anyone displaying symptoms of COVID-19 to comply with the 24 hour isolation period or wait to hear from a nurse before returning. We understand the strain this can put on families and schools, but are working hard to balance the need for in-person learning and keeping our community as safe as possible.

COVID 19 Symptoms
Feeling feverish, having chills
Temperature of 100.4 or greater
Loss of taste or smell
New or unexplained persistent cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Soar Throat
Runny nose or congestion
Muscle or body aches
Nausea, vomiting

Do not go to work or school  if you have any symptoms

If you have any symptoms and they clear up in 24 hours you may return to work/school

If your symptoms last longer than 24 hours, you need to isolate and follow guidance from the nurse:

If they were minor symptoms and cleared up in 48 hours AND you were symptom free for an additional 24 hours (3 days from onset of symptoms) and you are able to wear a mask you can go to work/school

If they were major symptoms but cleared up in 48 hours, you need a negative covid PCR test (not a rapid or antigen test) and an alternative diagnosis from a doctor. If you do not have a COVID test and an alternative diagnosis from a doctor, you need to follow Home Isolation for 10 days following symptom onset AND 24 hours fever free without use of fever-reducing meds with symptoms improving

We are following the CDPHE Return to Work Guidance

EXPOSED to someone with COVID 19 in the last 14 days:
You need to quarantine for 14 days, starting from the day of exposure

A negative COVID test does not mean you can go back to work or school

You need clearance from a Site Coordinator or nurse in order to return to work or school

**Please note that you may not hear from a nurse or your school  for up to 24 hours, we are in a Pandemic and must follow guidelines from CDPHE.**
