Greetings VIKAN Community!  I hope you noticed on the above calendar TWO exciting events that we have happening next week at VIKAN!
Our first event is the distribution of the prizes that were earned from last year’s STEP IT UP Fundraiser. It is a LONG TIME coming YES, MONTHS after these prizes should have been delivered, (darn COVID) however it is finally happening!  If your child was one of the leveled earners in last year’s fundraiser, (Feb-March) you will receive more information about the distribution and pick up of the prizes. Check your email for details coming soon.
Sadly, the GRAND  prize for the fundraiser, the Day of Awesomeness is unable to happen due to COVID. So instead, the company has given us an extra $1700 to make up for it!
Not only is the company standing behind the distribution of  prizes that students earned during the fundraiser, they have given us a substantial amount of money to make up for a missed opportunity. STEP IT UP stepped it up for our kids  and  I just love that.  I really respect INTEGRITY. It’s actually one of my core values--standing behind your words and actions, saying what is meant and meaning what is said even when iit is difficult and being honest and trustworthy.  That being said, this leads me into the next bit of exciting news.
We have decided to move forward this year with STEP IT UPs new fundraiser: STEAM Engine.  It will run just like last year.  Students will be asked to share emails and phone numbers that will receive some information about how to donate funds to our school.  It is simple and easy and brought in a total of $7500 last year BEFORE the additional $1700 that the company gave us. Our plan is to purchase permanent outside equipment that children can climb and play on.
PLEASE hear us when we say we know that now is not the best time for a school fundraiser.  We know many in our community are struggling just to survive right now. Times are hard; money is tight, we understand that.  We also understand that some people are able and very interested in giving right now. The VIKAN Community has so often proven to be generous and kind when it comes to supporting and caring about others. We did not want to pass up this opportunity for those that can to take this chance to give to the current and future students of VIKAN. We need you!Kickoff is on Tuesday, November 10 at 4:00pm during ADVISORY class. Be on the lookout for more information. THANKS everyone!

A BIG SHOUT OUT goes to Jenny Davenport, Dave Dibbern, Sarah Frank, Emma Schroeder, and Coach Torres for a FABULOUS and SUCCESSFUL first ever VIRTUAL Halloween Dance Party!  Thanks for taking a risk and trying something new!  The kiddos had a BLAST!  THANKS for all of your hard work!

***Good afternoon, Club Parents! After serious thought, I have decided to merge Digital Art, Storytelling & Comics Club with Traditional Art Club and move it to Wednesdays.I know that some of our Club Members are unhappy, and I'm keeping the door open for those who cannot come on Thursdays to participate in another way, but this is unavoidable.Thursday, Oct. 29th was last class before we merged!Thank you for being supportive of our students!
- Mrs. Davenport

As the weather changes and gets colder we want to let you know that students will have an inside day if the temperature is below 20 degrees. Please make sure that your student is properly dressed for the weather and please remind them to bring a jacket/coat with them.

We would like to let you know that students are still eligible to get free breakfast and lunch meals in the unfortunate event that your student is not able to attend school in person due to quarantine. Please see email for link to sign-up to request and pick up meals from our Tuesdays Free  grab and go meals. We ask that you sign up each week so that we know how many meals to prepare for pick up.

VIKAN COMMUNITY! Come experience the Grand Opening of the 2020-2021 VIKAN VR Art Museum, Monday, November 2nd, 2020. Our Virtual Art Museum will showcase the work of Art students, Vikan staff and faculty, and other student-artists in a virtual reality format - fully online. Link coming soon! Designed by our Vikan MS Art Teacher, Mrs. Davenport and the Art Club and Advisory.

Step It Up! Fundraiser  - 7th and 8th grade students, remember when we did that cool fundraiser with the cash, the sloths, the fridge filled with cash, the golden ticket? Due to the close down of school in the spring, we were not able to hand out prizes to students for the STEP IT UP Fundraiser. We are ready to make this up to you, our students that did a fabulous job of raising money for Vikan. If weather permits we will be doing a drive through to hand out prizes on Monday, Nov. 9th from 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm. If this impacts you we will be in touch.

This historic year is different. The yearbook is going to be different, too. You will want to order your student’s copy of this unique book. We promise it’s one you won’t want to miss! Visit to order yours by November 6th for the lowest price!
