Tiger News 4/29/20

Hello Tiger Families,

I hope this message finds you all well and healthy. We have just started our 4th week of digital learning but the 7th week of this new normal. Please reach out to your TIger Team teacher if your situation has drastically changed and you need support at home.

For our third week of digital distance learning we had an 86% participation rate across 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. While this seems like a lot, this number represents the percentage of students who engaged in one or more learning experiences that week. Ideally, 100% of kids would be engaging, so in order to gain additional perspective on our online learning structure our teachers will be reaching out this week and hoping to connect with the students. The purpose of the call is to find out what learning experiences have been engaging, what is working for them, and how we can be better. These calls will come from a Google Voice number so the number might be a number that is unrecognizable. We will also be putting a survey in the Tiger Team Google Classrooms next Monday. The purpose of the survey is to dig a little deeper into our online teaching practices so we can be better for the students. Lastly, my AP and I will be hosting office hours for parents starting next week, purpose of these hours is to get feedback on our online teaching as a whole and to answer any questions parents may have. .
Cristina Bissell will be available on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00 pm by phone at 719-651-1587 and Grace Bird will be available on Tuesday mornings from 9:00-10:00 am. Just use this link to chat with her. Grace Bird is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Yearbooks will be delivered to my house on May 14th. We are in the process of creating a plan for the distribution of the yearbooks. We will share the plan as we develop it.

Save the Date for 8th grade Continuation: We are in the process of planning an 8th grade Drive-thru Continuation on May 21st. Please save the date and we will send updated plans soon.

Teacher Appreciation Week is next week from May 5- May 8th. Please feel free to have your students share an email with staff expressing gratitude! It would be awesome for the staff to feel some love from the students (their favorite part of the job)!

Technology Updates:

We are available on Tuesday mornings at PVMS from 8:00-10:00 am by appointment to exchange broken chromebooks. Please email Kstauffer@sd27j.net to make an appointment.

Anythink Library has hotspots available to check-out, if you are having connectivity issues this may be an option for you. Please call (303) 405-3200.

If chromebooks are working slower than expected, consider driving to a 27J school parking lot to hop on district wifi. Once there, clear out the history and close down as many tabs as possible. Shut down and restart the chromebook. The Chromebook should work faster after those adjustments.
