Tuesday Tiger News 8/11/20

Happy Tuesday Tigers,

It has been a fast and furious week since we last connected.  Teachers and staff have returned to work and are so excited to be preparing for students. We have missed them so much. Here is some updated information to share:

Student Schedules & Calls from Advisory Teachers

Our counselors, Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Riessen have been working tirelessly to rebuild our school schedule within Infinite Campus. We received AB day lists from the district on Friday and so we are now able to start scheduling students into classes! Please expect a call from your student’s Tiger Team (Advisory Teacher) starting tomorrow. They will be sharing important information with you regarding your student’s schedule and details about orientation days. Please know that student schedules are subject to change in the coming weeks as we work to get students all the classes they need and to balance out class sizes. Also, student schedules will not be communicated tomorrow, the only thing that will be shared will be whether a student will be attending school on blue days or silver days, their orientation date and time, and their assigned door for arrival.

Virtual Back-to-School Night

We are creating a Virtual Back-to-School Night for families to get to know PVMS and teachers. There will be video introductions from school leadership and teaching staff. You will be able to navigate through the site and view videos that are specific to your student’s grade-level team. We will also include documents that provide an overview of morning arrival procedures, what to expect for Orientations day, and teacher contact information.  We hope to have this posted and shared with our community on Friday evening.

Morning Arrival

Once school begins (including orientations) students may not be on campus prior to 9:45am. Access to the drop-off circle will not be opened until that time. Once on campus, students must immediately proceed to their assigned entry door and follow social distancing rules. Further information about arrival procedures will be included in the Virtual Back-to-School Night website.

The Big Question - What if my student gets sick?!?!?!

All students are expected to complete a health screener survey each day before they arrive to school. Please help your student monitor their symptoms and do NOT send them to school if they have new COVID related symptoms. This includes a cough, shortness of breath, and a fever of 100.4 or higher. Additional symptoms include chills, muscle or body aches, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, headache, congestion/runny nose, fatigue.
Before students are allowed to enter the building, their temperature will be taken and will complete an additional verbal screener of the symptoms listed above. If students have a fever or any of the symptoms, they will be directed to our school isolation room where they will be supervised by our building COVID site coordinator as they wait to be picked up by their parents.
All decisions on returning to school will be made by our school nurse in conjunction with the local health department. Students will be required to isolate at home for ten calendar days as well as be required to get clearance from a primary care physician and/or a COVID test.
If you have kept your student home because they have symptoms, please contact their primary care physician for care AND contact us so that our site coordinator can maintain a record.
In the event of a positive student or staff COVID test, information regarding required quarantining will be shared with any individuals who had close contact (within six feet for 15 minutes or more) with the individual who has tested positive.
Staff will also complete daily health screenings & temperature checks and are also subject to quarantine and testing directives. The district is providing staff with two COVID tests per month in order to help us ensure a safe learning environment for students.

Orientation Dates and Times:

During orientation students will follow their new bell schedule and practice transitions throughout the building that follow our new safety protocols. In their classes they will also review their remote day schedules, safety information, PVMS Core Values, the student handbook, and learning community expectations. 7th and 8th graders will attend one orientation day and 6th graders will attend two. All students will begin their normal schedules on September 1, 2020.
