Tiger Tuesday News

February 2, 2021

IT'S FEBRUARY! HOLY BUCKETS! Where has this year gone?  I feel like it has flown by oh so quickly. I want to take a minute to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all of you for the amazing job you have done keeping sick or almost sick kids at home, communicating with us effectively, and helping us maintain our COVID-19 protocols with fidelity. We appreciate you and understand that it is the partnership between home and school that has allowed us to keep our cohorts open! - Mrs. Bissell

COVID Update: COVID-19 communication will now be facilitated by Korri Stauffer.  Questions, concerns, or reports regarding COVID-19 should be directed to her at:

Kstauffer1@sd27j.net or call her at 720-685-5409

Make-A-Wish!

February is a fun month at PVMS!  This week begins our annual (6th year) Make-A-Wish event.  In the last five years, PVMS has raised $21,564!!  We are one of the top contributors in the state out of middle school participation.  Most importantly, we have increased awareness about this important cause and how generosity and kindness can have a huge impact for all involved.

Our Wish Kid this year is Parker!  He is 14 years old and is from Ft. Collins.  Parker has Loeys-Dietz Syndrome. He believes young people can make a difference in this world by being truthful. kind and not judging others by how they look.  Because of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, Parker will receive one of these wishes: to meet his favorite youtuber, spend a week in the Carolinas, play a round of golf with his favorite pro golfer, or take a cruise in the Bahamas.

Students will be learning about the Make-A-Wish foundation and our Wish Kid, Parker, in their advisory class.

PVMS - Meet Parker!

We will have a spirit week next week (February 9th-12th)  We will be dressing up in Parker's favorite things.

Tuesday/Wednesday: Dress up in Harry Potter or Star Wars

Thursday/Friday: Wear as much PURPLE as possible.

Additionally, we are having a grade-level fundraising competition.  Feel free to help your student's grade WIN.  Click on the grade level fundraising page to make a donation:

8th Grade: http://site.wish.org/goto/PVMS8

7th Grade:  http://site.wish.org/goto/PVMS7

6th Grade: http://site.wish.org/goto/PVMS6

We think this is a perfect opportunity to ground ourselves in the strength of generosity and kindness.  If students are unable to donate, we are  encouraging them to give "acts of kindness" to their community and family.  Acts of kindness are just as valuable, if not more, than any monetary contribution.  Thanks for your support!!

Online Interest for 2021-2022 - Please Take Parent Survey!

While we don't know what to expect for next school year, we do know that you have preferences.  We also know how challenging online learning has been for some. For others, it has been a successful experience. We are interested in knowing your preference for each of your children so that we can plan accordingly for the 2021-2022 school year. Completing the survey does not commit you to a choice, it simply helps us plan. Please complete one survey for each of your child(ren). Your participation is greatly appreciated!

Campus Hours

The PVMS campus is open for students from 9:45am to 4:45pm. We ask that you please make your best effort to not drop-off students before or pick-up after these times. Student safety is our top priority and we do not offer outside supervision outside of these times. This is especially important as we experience colder and snowier weather.

Student Pick-Up Requirements

Any parent or guardian picking up their student at PVMS during school hours MUST provide a photo ID. This important safety precaution ensures our Tigers are headed home with the right people. Please make sure to bring your photo ID with you when you come to the vestibule. No exceptions will be made and we appreciate your understanding as nothing is more important than keeping our Tigers safe.

Free & Reduced Lunch Applications & Fee Waivers

Since school meals are free for all students this school year, less families have completed the Free & Reduced Meal Application. In addition to free and reduced lunch, this application can make you eligible to have school fees waived for your 27J students. Here is how to apply:

To fill out the school fees waiver form, go to www.payschoolscentral.com or use the PaySchools app, go to User > Share Disclosures with Other Departments. Additionally, you may get a paper copy of this form at your child’s school.

If you have any questions, you may go to www.sd27j.org/Page/294 for additional information, or contact our main office.

School Pictures

Virtual Tigers that came in for school pictures can pick up their Lifetouch picture proofs and their school ID’s from the main office at any time.

CMAS Testing

It's hard to believe, but CMAS testing will be upon us soon. Testing is scheduled to occur from April 12th to 20th. These annual state assessments measure a student's proficiency related to state English Language Arts, math, and science standards. These assessments provide us with invaluable data to help us plan to meet the needs of our students. This data is even more important than ever for us considering all the changes and interruptions that have occurred in the last year - we are excited to see where all of our students are so that we can plan accordingly for their learning in the upcoming school year. Schedules for testing will be shared in March.

Virtual Students & CMAS -  While we offer a fully virtual option for day-to-day learning, the state requires that CMAS be completed within the school building. As with our in-person learners, student safety is our #1 priority and we are confident that we will be able to provide a safe environment for our virtual students to test at PVMS. Virtual students will be assigned to specific testing groups only made up of other virtual students, are separate from in-person learners/teachers and will follow all state guidelines for safety including distancing, capacity, and masking. Additionally, they will arrive at a different time and enter the building through separate doors. If you have a virtual PVMS student and you have not already, please complete this survey to help us gather information. We successfully completed ACCESS testing yesterday in-person for our virtual students and everything went very well!

Questions regarding state assessments should be directed to Assistant Principal and School Assessment Coordinator Grace Bird at gbird@sd27j.net.
