Picture Day

TOMORROW, Wednesday, August 24th is picture day! It is important that we have up-to-date photos for all of our students each year. They are used in our student information system, for school IDs, for the yearbook, and of course as special keepsakes for your famiy! Students have received the picture day order form in advisory. A make-up picture day has not yet been scheduled.

Source of Strength

This week during advisory students will be introduced to our Source of Strength (SOS) program.  At its core, Sources of Strength is a strength based program that encourages students to build strengths in the following areas (positive friends, family, medical access, mental health, mentors, gratitude, spirituality and healthy activities). Intentionally working towards strength in these areas is the most impactful work we can do to prevent life-stress, depression, and anxiety. There will also be an opportunity for students to be involved in this program as a student leader. Students are signing up in their advisory class if they are interested. Please read this introduction to the Sources program here: Parent Letter

Dean’s Corner

As we get into our third week of school, we are seeing some impactful decision making by students! Check in with your student about positive referrals and Tiger Stripes. Students are doing a great job helping around our building and being respectful classmates, peers, and students! However, a few trends that we are seeing arise are

tardiness to class
cell phone usage
dress code violations
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our school expectations about those topics, please refer to our Student Handbook. In addition, some great conversation topics to connect with your PVMS student are social media access, positive peer influences, or goals they are setting at school!

Fall Sports Schedule

Practice for volleyball and football are underway! We hope that you will join us to cheer on our Tigers through the fall season. Schedules are linked below:

PVMS has Turf!

A huge thank you to the PVMS and 27J community for supporting the Fall 2022 Bond Initiative. As a result of this funding, PVMS had artificial turf installed this last month. We are so excited to have updated facilities for our students. Our teams are already practicing on the turf and we are excited for our first home football game on Wednesday, August 31st at 5:00pm vs, Overland Trail Middle School. See you then!

COVID Positive Case Reporting & Isolation for Students

As much as we hate to admit it, COVID is still a thing! If your student tests positive, you need to fill out the Student COVID Reporting Form, this is also linked on the 27J COVID page.

Students or parents need to report their absence per usual to their school, and should follow these instructions to help determine their isolation period (also on our the 27J website).

Student Fees

A reminder that student fees for the 2022-23 have been added to your student accounts. The district Fee Schedule can be found here.

Per district policy, students that participate in athletics are required to have all student fees, not just athletic fees.

Lunch

School breakfast and lunch are sadly no longer free for all students. The federal program that paid for these meals the last two years has ended and so students are now required to pay the following costs for meals:

Breakfast - $2.25
Lunch - $3.75
Please encourage your student(s) to eat during the school day, this is an important part of taking care of themselves.

In order to receive free or reduced meals (as well as reduced fees) please make sure to complete the annual Free & Reduced Lunch application. Directions can be found here.

Transportation

Families still in need of bus transportation should contact the 27J Transportation Department directly. Information can be found here.

All school rules apply to district transportation. Students are subject to consequences, including suspension from or complete removal from transportation services for high-level or habitual behaviors.
