New Principal Named for Prairie View High School

27J Schools’ Superintendent Chris Fiedler announced that Steve Shelton will be the new principal at Prairie View High School. Steve will assume his new role in the Fall when current principal Mike Burke takes over the role of district director of postsecondary options and workforce readiness. 

Steve comes to 27J Schools by way of Broomfield High School where he serves as assistant principal and athletic director in the Boulder Valley School District. Steve evaluates, hires and manages teachers, coaches and hourly staff at his school. He also manages the athletics and activities budgets, and he puts the school’s new teacher evaluation protocols into action for Broomfield High School.

“Steve has a wealth of knowledge and experience around what it takes to build and lead high quality secondary schools,” Deputy Superintendent Will Pierce said. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to 27J Schools and to Prairie View High School.”

Prior to coming to Broomfield High School, Steve was in similar roles at Heritage High School, Littleton and Brighton High School in Brighton. He served as a district administrator in Boulder Valley Schools as director of student services where he was responsible for managing student discipline and attendance for the district’s 57 schools and supporting safety and security. 

Steve is a veteran classroom teacher who taught math at the high school level and he taught world geography and math as a middle school teacher. 

Before coming to Colorado, Steve lived in Michigan and earned his bachelor of arts and masters degree in educational leadership from Western Michigan University. He earned his principal’s license from the University of Colorado, Denver.
