Second Creek teachers and staff partnered with the Commerce City Recreation Center for a Giving Tree holiday program to get kids and families in need gifts for Christmas.

In all, 42 Second Creek children and siblings received gifts this year. Kids received toys and clothes from their Wish Lists. Families were picking up gifts last week and this week.

Pictured above is Second Creek volunteer Wendi Bell and Second Creek secretary Nancy Astor wrapping toy donations from the Giving Tree program. Some families received gift cards so parents could shop and purchase gifts for their children.

"We are very blessed at Second Creek Elementary because our staff members are so compassionate and connected to our students," said Astor, about how many donations were given through the program.

Some of the toys requested by kids were: Legos, Nerf, books, dolls, puzzels, stuffed animals, race cars, craft items and board games. Many of the children were simply asking for clothing for Christmas, she said.

This partnership has been going on with Second Creek Elementary and the Commerce City Recreation Center for about the past seven years. "It's awesome to see this," Astor said. "The families are so appreciative of the help."
