Meet one of our Daniels Fund Scholars, Tessa Davis from Prairie View High School!
Tessa has served as a member of the City of Brighton’s Youth Commission for two years. Through the youth commission, Tessa has completed hundreds of community service hours, from helping at food banks to helping plan annual city events. Tessa is very thankful that the Manager of Youth Services for the City of Brighton, Tawnya Russell, pushed Tessa to apply to the Daniels Fund and has made an effort to help commissioners like Tessa pursue their dreams after high school.
“When I first found out that I had been selected as a Daniels scholar, I was relieved to find out all of my work to get here had finally paid off. My family has struggled in the past with income but my mother has always found ways to make sure that I was able to do extracurriculars and to see friends. She has pushed me to do the best I possibly can. This scholarship will relieve some of the financial burdens of college as well as give me the opportunity to earn a degree that will help me find a better-paying job in the future.”
Tessa plans on studying psychology with a minor in theatre to eventually get a certificate as a drama therapist.
Congratulations Tessa! We are #27JProud of your hard work and cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!
