Letter from Mrs. D - August 9 - Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year
Good evening, Southlawn! We are hoping your summer was refreshing and provided a time of rejuvenation, fun and excitement. It is now time to prepare for the 2023-2024 school year.
Some of you have been asking some very good questions. Maybe this will answer some of your very own questions as well. We’d like to share them with you.
- How will we find out the name of the teacher? Monday evening you should begin to monitor your email. Teachers will be sending out emails of introduction as well as where you will be dropping off and picking up your student. There will be much more information, but these are the two main questions we have been answering.
- Where do I find the school supply list? Check out the front page of our website at sd27j.org/southlawn. You will find a link on the left side entitled “School Supplies”. Simply click that link and then click on the link(s) for the grade level.
- When is the first day of school? Our first day of school is August 10th (that’s next Thursday) for students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. (Preschool’s first day will be August 23rd.)
- When will we drop off our supplies? Next Wednesday, August 9th, between the hours of 9 AM and 11 AM. Please come to the main entrance. Our Paraprofessionals will greet you at the door walk you to the classroom. Unfortunately, our teachers will be in training that day and, therefore, they will be unavailable to greet you.
- When is back to school night? Mark your calendars – August 30th from 4-6 PM.
- What are the school hours? The doors open at 7:30 AM for students who are having breakfast. For non-breakfast eaters, the doors will open at 7:40 AM and they will go directly to their classes. Don’t worry! Staff will be available to ensure your student makes it to their correct classroom.
- How can I get involved at the school? An excellent way to get involved and get “in the know” of what’s happening at Southlawn, is to join the PTO. Again, more information will be coming. Be sure to check your email for the most current “What’s the Buzz” newsletter. We will get that up and running by the end of August.
