To ensure maximum safety and participation, your child should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for movement. Tennis type/sneaker shoes with a flat bottom (no heel or high platform) and the foot fully covered and laced snugly are designed to allow for easy movement and to protect the feet and ankles from injuries that could occur while participating in the activities.

MVP just notified us the Fall pictures are still in production and will be shipped by the end of this month. Since it is easier to make the decision of whether or not to have a student's picture retaken if you have the pictures in hand, the date for picture retakes has been moved to November 10th.

Where would we be without the incredible Southlawn community? The detailed planning and tireless hands who came together and Southlawn staff and families who manned the booths, spookified their trunks and endured the chilly weather collectively came together and made Southlawn's first trunk or treat an incredible success. The smiles on the kiddo's faces said it all! Thank you, everyone!

It is the desire of the school that students get outside as much as possible. Outside recesses give students the best opportunity to burn energy, thus preparing them to be more successful in the classroom. There are certain environmental conditions that would prevent students being outside and therefore an inside recess would need to occur.

 

An inside recess day will occur if any of the following conditions exist or any combination of the following conditions create an environment that would be unsafe for students:

• The temperature falls below 25° F (with wind chill)

• The presence of ice on play equipment, on the basketball/tetherball playground, or sidewalks

• High winds persist with blowing debris

• The possible threat of a natural disaster (tornado, lightning, etc.)

• The possible threat of a felon or criminal perpetrator in the area

• Excessive rain

Please remember that your children will be playing outside every day, weather permitting. The teachers may take the children out to play in light rain or wet conditions – those are the best puddle jumping days! We will take the children out to play in cold weather and hot weather, although the teachers may make adjustments to the time spent outside depending on the temperature. Please take the weather into consideration when you dress your child for the day. As the weather gets cooler, jackets and coats will be necessary for your child to wear to school. In the winter, your child will need a hat, gloves or mittens, and boots to play in the snow.

At school we plan many fun, age-appropriate activities for your children throughout the day and these are sometimes messy. Please be sure to send your child in clothes that can get messy. If your child needs to wear something special for an activity at school, the teachers will send home a note or email to let you know in advance.
